MSOKC Board Of Directors Meeting Minutes
August 24, 2003
As submitted by Secretary Jim Conlin

Meeting came to order at 7:46 am at Circleville Raceway Park offices, Circleville, OH. Present were Board members Steve Tatman, Jim Conlin, Erin Dillon Mike Dillon, Bob Strawser, Roberto Zayas, Mike Long, Mike Unger, Mike Boyd, Tom Hickey. Also in attendance, Roy Hume, Keith Hume, Bo Strawser, Sarah Long.

Tatman read aloud a protest left under Tom Hickey's windshield wiper from driver and/or crew of Spec 100 #6 kart. The protest challenged the disqualification from an August 17 Spec 100 heat for under weight. Protest stated that the driver and crew of kart #6 did not know that they had been disqualified, that the scale display fluctuated between 339.5 and 340 and that they were told they were "okay" after being weighed. It also claimed that in the past there has been a 1 pound leeway.

Since the BoD can not determine or recreate the exact readings from that weighing the BoD only has the reported infraction to go by and the penalty would have to stand. Tatman suggested that if racers are running that close to the minimum they are playing it too close and may have to suffer the consequences of a miscalculation. BoD members agreed there has never been any accepted "leeway"- official or otherwise. Strawser, Conlin, Tatman all referenced being DQ'd for .5 pound infractions. Also, the BoD agreed that leaving a protest on the windshield of an official's vehicle is not the recommended procedure for filing a protest.

Tatman reported that Jack Rollins has been doing major rewiring and repair of CRP's lighting system. Making good progress and should be done well in advance of the upcoming Saturday afternoon race.

The September 6th Saturday race will run on a special Saturday schedule with gates opening at noon and racing starting at 3:00pm. Conlin to publish on website.

Tatman reported that he has been approached by AMA Promoto Tour to do host a pro motocross with star names. Not sure if he could pull off the logistics but if he can, the numbers work out to be a windfall for the track and the proceeds could be used to repave the kart track. However, the desired race date would be Oct 5, the day after the tour races in Columbus. MSOKC would have to move the scheduled race to another date to allow him to do this. BoD agreed that MSOKC could move the October 5 race to October 11 (making it a double race weekend with the scheduled race on Sunday) if it meant Tatman would be able to repave the track.

Tatman reported that he had bought two new radio headsets, one of which looks like it does the job.

Tatman said a 2004 BoD sign-up sheet will be available at the concession window and that he would be making announcements throughout the day encouraging people to sign themselves or someone else up.

Conlin suggested that the MSOKC Open House/Swap Meet be that weekend as well. However, an Open House scheduled for the October 5 race will allow for a rain date of Oct 12. BoD agreed that an Open House should be scheduled for Oct 5 unless the Promoto event comes off and we reschedule at which point the open house will be Oct 11 with Oct 12 as the rain date. Conlin should begin planning including contacting vendors that may be interested.

Meeting adjourned 8:25am.
