2001 Reports

September 01 A
full day saw Conlin SpeedSports show well. Jim made it a clean sweep of seconds
behind Sean Wilson. Dana had the best, hardest fought race of her year only
to be let down by her crew who had underfilled the fuel. The momentary fuel
starvation two corners from the checkered flag was all Bryan Rose needed to
get by. Heartbreaking for all of us because Dana had driven a perfect race.
Tracy, however, raised us back out of that bitter defeat by also driving a
perfect race in her first try. She finished second in the Powder Puff race
and earned much praise from the watching racers by staying as close as she
did to the Michelle Childers' Yamaha kart.

September 01 In
her first ever autocross, Dana did a fine job, finding 11 seconds of improvement
over the eight runs through the parking lot race course. The event, conducted
by the Ohio Valley Region, Sports Car Club of America, gave Dana and Jim the
chance to throw her Tiburon around the pylons. Dana learned quickly, getting
faster on every run - even surviving a "honkin' tank slapper" during one of
them. She even got a first place trophy to show for her efforts! This report
to be added too just as soon as life slows down a little.

September 01 INFONETICS
Day At The Races saw Jim give it his best shot, leading three laps of the
first heat and the first lap of the feature (and an attempt to lead the second
one almost took both Jim and Sean out of the race) ultimately finishing second
again. Sean was on fire all day with his Wilson Racing kart, recording a 49
second lap before the final checkered flag of the day - a feat the whole team
should be proud of. Dana worked the event to meet her obligation for championship
points.

August 01 In
an event cut short by darkness, Jim suffered the team's first DNF of the season
when lack of light had his eyes playing tricks on him at 55 mph. No damage
other than to the ego but it was an exciting ride. Earlier in the evening
Jim and Lee Griffith had a great race in heat one, Jim getting by with two
corners to go when Lee made a rare mistake. For Dana it was a long night.
After taking a shot to the ribs in practice (just hit a bump wrong during
high G-forces) it was all she could do to finish the first heat. Advised by
Dad to just start the second heat to get sixth place points and then retire
after a lap, her competitive spirit took over when she found herself in position
to challenge fourth and maybe even third place and stayed out despite the
discomfort. Unfortunately, her feature was one of the ones canceled for lack
of light. Check back for the whole story!

August 01 Friday night practice to test for
the following day's conditions started off as a trial but everything came
right by the end of the night.

August 01 Congrats to faithful reader Karon
Betz for being the quickest mouse draw in the midwest. She found the secret
photo and won the Secret Photo Contest hands down. She gets the much-coveted
genuine Conlin SpeedSports guaranteed to make you the center of attention
wherever you go team T-shirt. Thanks for reading Karon!
