Pledge Pennies
for Points
to help purchase Scott's new wheelchair
In
1997, Hilliard resident Scott Wolfe was struck by a car and lost his ability
to walk, talk and eat on his own. Since that accident Scott has also suffered
through the loss of both parents. He is currently cared for by an aunt and uncle.
Scott's teacher at Hilliard Darby
High School, Deb Spence, and his nurse Melissa Harper recognized the freedom
a specialized wheelchair would give him. The high tech motorized wheelchair,
which costs upwards of $25,000, would allow Scott steer by moving his head.
The head navigation technology would also allow Scott to use various communication
devices to help him express himself more freely. Ms. Spence is heading up a
school-wide fundraising effort to get Scott the wheelchair that will change
his life.
We'd like to supplement Hilliard
Darby's fundraising efforts to get that wheelchair for Scott but we need your
assistance. We'd like you to pledge "Pennies for Points" - the championship
points Dana will earn in our next race.
Here's how it works: Each race day
has the potential of 160 points for the winner of the day's three races. Last
year, Dana averaged about 138 points per event (hopefully that average will
be higher this year). If Dana were to earn 140 points at the next event, a $0.10
pledge would convert to a $14.00 donation to the Moving Forward Wheelchair Fund.
Yes, it puts extra pressure on us
to finish every race and on Dana to fight for every point she can, but it's
for a good cause and we're up to the challenge. Help us if you can.
