28 September - Accomplishment
We're way behind in our race reports here at www.ConlinSS.com but we're expecting quite a few visitors to this site in the next few days to check in to find out how we did in the 2008 Mazda RoboPong 200 presented by Bridgestone. The first word that came to mind as we crossed the finish line in 20th position in a field of 84 teams was "accomplishment".
Accomplishment not only because we, as a small independent family team, reached our goal of finishing in the top 20 against factory and kart shop teams but also because we avoided any mechanical failures on the kart; because we improved 38 positions during the 3.5+ hour race; because we maximized our track time to record 189 laps thereby maximizing the lap-based pledges to the American Cancer Society; and because we once again assembled a group of hard-core racers thoroughly engaged in seeing our team finish as far up the charts as possible. Mike Unger, Bill Willis, Brian O'Hara, Dave & Joann Creech, Mike and Barbie Mees, Daniel Legg, Rocky Johnson, Greg Wilkenson, Roger & Dee Tilton and of course Todd, Lynn and Julie made up the best crew I could have hoped for. Then there were the drivers who kept the kart out of trouble in relentlessly heavy traffic (84 karts!!!)- Dana, Tracy and Lynsey Tilton, who is just an amazing driver and is now one of my personal heroes after doing three driving stints when Tracy's back gave out half way through her turn. Our result was directly the product of how badly each of these great friends and racers wanted it. Thank you all.
02 September - Join Our RoboPong Team To Benefit An Important Cause (Press Release)
All Proceeds to BenefitPledge Here!
The Conlin SpeedSports Robopong 200 team has reason to battle even harder in this year’s endurance race to be held at New Castle Motorsports Park on September 28. The team will use this event to raise money for the American Cancer society, a cause close to team members’ hearts.
Having four cancer survivors among the Conlin SpeedSports endurance crew, it is important that the team contribute to the funding of cancer research in order to increase the number of cancer survivors. “More and more people are surviving cancer with the help of cancer research. It is obvious that what the American Cancer Society does is working and we want to help contribute to that effort,” team owner Jim Conlin says.
The team, led by drivers Dana Mees, sister Tracy Conlin and USAC Midget driver Lynsey Tilton, is taking the opportunity provided by the excitement surrounding this event to give back and hope that many will join to support the cause. Conlin SpeedSports asks that others join the team for the Mazda Robopong 200 presented by Bridgestone by pledging an amount for each lap the team completes during the race. While Conlin SpeedSports intends to complete all 200 laps, if the team runs into trouble, it will do everything in its power to quickly get back out on the track to raise as much money as possible for the American Cancer Society. Conlin SpeedSports encourages others to join the team. No amount is too small and 100% of the proceeds goes directly to cancer research. Pledges can be made here.
