26 May - Formula One, Out Of The Box
If you love Formula One racing and have the opportunity to get to a race, go, just for the experience. If you love Formula One racing and live in Columbus, go to Studio 35 (3055 Indianola Avenue) for the next best thing. The Columbus Formula One Underground (CFOU) has made arrangements with Studio 35 to show the Monaco Grand Prix and the Canadian Grand Prix on the theater's big screen. If the sight of your favorite Formula One car/team/driver up on the 30' screen bigger than life doesn't do it for you, the in-car footage definitely will. Regardless of how great a home theater system you have in your living room, in-car never looked so real on the small box as it does on the silver screen in a darken theater.
Studio 35 is a classic neighborhood theater, the likes of which are an endangered species in this day of mammoth mall megeplexs. The homey feel adds to the enjoyment with a full bar tended by the theater's owner. Admission is only $5 per person. Our entire crew stumbled in at 7:30am for the Monaco Grand Prix and had a great time. We won't be able to attend the June 10 (race starts at 1pm, expect doors to open about noon) viewing of the Canadian GP but we hope to be with our new CFOU friends again for the French Grand Prix July 1.
Unless you like watching the world's greatest form of motorsport on a tiny tube alone in your underwear, make the effort to join some fellow fanatics at Studio 35.
21 May - Anderson Mayor's Cup Photo Gallery
The best pictures from the Anderson (Indiana) Mayor's Cup street race have been selected, cropped and posted. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then there's about 10,000 of them linked here.
11 May - On-board With Tracy
Tracy had an on-board camera attached to her helmet fotr the MSOKC club race she ran on May 6th and we've posted the second heat race to YouTube for anyone to see. Follow this link to check it out. You'll see her fighting to find a way into first place while keeping boyfriend Eric behind her in third. For those of you that are curious to see how that came out - and hear the comments that followed - set aside about five minutes and click on over.
5-6 May - New And Strange, Old And Familiar
The first weekend of May was a busy one for us - busy but fun. Both the street race in Anderson, Indiana on Saturday and the Mid State Ohio Kart Club race on Sunday were non-championship, non-stress, non-thrashing affairs. We experienced a new street circuit that was unlike any kart racing we've done before and got to race with our friends (and in Tracy's case, her boyfriend) at our local club track.
Dana and Tracy struggled to come to grips (literally and figuratively) with the very tight Anderson Mayor's Cup layout. It featured three super-tight hairpin turns and one super fast downhill sweeper. Being only our second street race we're still learning how to set up for racing on the slick city streets. But Eric showed us that we really couldn't use that excuse because he was a dominant force all day. Pretty impressive considering Anderson was his first street race ever! In the 10 lap prelim he moved from 10th to 2nd and then led 24 of the 25 lap feature. Unfortunately, the one lap he didn't lead was the one that mattered most. Dana and Tracy finished finished 5 and 6 positions behind him at the end of the Final.
The engine was barely cool on the Monster Truck (our Excursion tow vehicle) when we stumbled out of the house Sunday morning to head to Circleville Raceway Park. Dana had some wedding planning that needed her attention and passed on the MSOKC race but Tracy was game to go out and race against some old rivals including Eric. In fact, Eric and her made it a Biesse Vortex Rok TT 1 - 2 in the feature race. More...
