15 - 18 September- Karting With Egos
When Krista Schumacher deliberately crashed into the back of Dana going into NCMP's Turn 5 on the last lap of Saturday's Pre-Final of race #9 in the Great Lakes SuperKarts! USA Klein Tools Pro Tour, we wondered why she was resorting to Stupid NASCAR Tricks to take 8th place. After all, it wasn't for a podium spot and it wasn't for points - she hasn't raced with Great Lakes SKUSA all year.
When Krista Schumacher tried to do it again on the last corner, throwing herself off the track in the process, we wondered what we could have possibly done to get her so angry with us... other than out-qualify her and then out-drive her.
When an equally agitated Shawn Mattes got in my face in the scalehouse queue about us using an external starter, and then commiserated with Krista Schumacher, we began to piece it together. More...
Todd & Dana - teammates for life
13 September - Our Family Team Grows!
Conlin SpeedSports grew by one permanent member today, Todd's birthday, when he proposed to Dana and she said "yes". Dating since January and having been friends before that, Todd and Dana are planning a year-long engagement.
Todd Mees comes from a racing family as well, knocking around Sports Car Club of America and International Motor Sports Association events as a kid while his dad Mike Mees among other drives, co-drove endurance races with Columbus racing legend Dick Greer. Mom Barbie is no stranger to racing pits and paddocks either as she helped Mike and shepherded Todd and sister Hope around sports car tracks nationwide. Hope resides now in Miami, Florida and has worked for Homestead Miami Speedway.
Todd raced BMX bikes for factory teams before moving onto mountain bike racing and eventually landing in karting. In fact, the first time the happy couple met was at Circleville Raceway Park and later that day they banged wheels in a fight over first place in an MSOKC TaG Senior race in April of '05.
Todd has been a dedicated member of our crew this year, a tremendous help as we struggled with various mechanical problems. He's been a great addition to all our family functions and has been filling out our pew at church very nicely (that is when we've been able to get to church this year!) and that is very important to us. We are all thrilled to have Todd join our clan and have Mike, Barbie and "Hopie" become an extension of our family.
