26 January - NKN Feature Article
The February issue of National Kart News contains an article we submitted about the advantages of karting as a family. There are several photos of familiar faces and hopefully words of encouragement for moms or dads considering racing with their kids. For those of you already into karting your issue of National Kart News should be arriving any day. If you don't have a subscription to NKN (Shame on you! - the tech articles in NKN will make you faster) stop by the NKN booth at the OVKA Swap Meet Feb 5 to pick one up and check it out. For the non-racers, we hope to have the story posted here in a few weeks.
23 January - Off-Season Activities
There hasn't been much time to rest, it seems, since returning from the Lyn St. James Driver Developement Program back December what with the holidays and all.
Dana has been applying what she learned in Phoenix on a daily basis getting up early every morning for as much as an hour's work-out before heading off to work. She'll be more fit and ready for the season then ever before.
Tracy has kept up her own personal training program ever since graduating high school and the track and cross country teams. Over the winter she has also found the time to write a few songs with her boyfriend Chris. Today they debuted one of those songs at the Praise Service at our church, Atonement Lutheran in Upper Arlington. The lyrics can be found here but we hope we can post a .wav file of the song at some point.
The OVKA Swap Meet in Springfield, Ohio, on February 5 is the unofficial start to our season. It is there that we begin collecting the parts and supplies we need for the new year and it is also the place where we see racing friends we haven't seen since Novemeber. And one never knows when the first warm snap may be that opens Circleville Raceway Park up for a few days of early-early season testing so one needs to be ready.
22 January - Preliminary '05 Schedule Released
We've put together a preliminary (very preliminary) 2005 schedule. We will be racing two of the four WKA Manufacturer's Cup national races and are now planning to do most of the Mid State Ohio Kart Club series at Circleville Raceway Park. We're planning to run the "street" race at the Columbus Crew Statium and a "pro" non-championship race at CRP. We also have two very important non-racing events planned. We are still trying to add the Great Lakes Sprint Series WKA divisional series and the final WKA national race into the mix so this schedule could possibly be adjusted a few times between now and when the season starts. It looks to be a busy year but to see where we'll be when as it stands right now, click over to our tentative '05 schedule.
14 January - Expected At The Expo
Go right now to the calendar and put a big circle around February 26 & 27. That Saturday and Sunday is date of the Ohio Motorsports Expo at the Ohio Expo Center near I71 and 17th Street. In addition to a great variety of racing and muscle cars we'll have our two karts on display there and our two drivers meeting & greeting. As if the show wasn't enough, the Home and Garden Show will be going on at the nearby Celeste Center and the Buckeye Indoor Winter Nationals (quarter midgets) will be racing around inside the O'Neil building.
It is only $2 for adult admission to the Ohio Motorsports Expo and kids under 12 are FREE! And (this is the best part), 100% of your admission fee goes to the Ohio Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. So please come on out that last weekend in February (you'll have cabin fever Big Time by then) check out the latest for your home inside and out, take in a little racing then stroll the Expo and come by and say "Hi". And the whole time you'll be helping to make some Wishes come true.
Now go. Go circle Feb 26/27. NOW!
