26 - 27 February - 15 Minutes of Fame
The Ohio Motorsports Expo was an exercise in extremes
What Andy Warhol actually meant when he said "Someday everyone will be famous for 15 minutes" was that society's thirst for the next fresh face or hotter Hottie and general short attention span would render every celebrity only 15 minutes of fame someday. Not that it was an entitlement, as it has been interpreted in popular culture today, but that fame would be so fleeting and insignificant that the world would know a star's name for only 15 minutes.
What the heck does that have to do with us? Well, with our karts, drivers and info about our team on display, the Ohio Motorsports Expo had us feelin' kinda famous. We still get a big kick out of kids and even adults asking for Dana & Tracy's autographs. After all, it seems like only a few years ago that Julie, Tracy and Dana were standing in lines to get their racer autographs. We were very pleased to see so many of our regular readers come out to see us and support the Ohio Chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation at the same time. Ohio Motorsports Expo Promoter Mike Garrepy did an excellent job of keeping us exhibitors informed and welcomed. Getting the vehicles in and out of the Expo Center was a breeze thanks to Mike and his staff. More...
23 February - Scheduled Schedule Tweaking
We've tweaked up our 2005 schedule as predicted to include the Great Lakes Sprint (Divisional) Series and one Midwest Sprint Series (Divisional) race. This schedule too is subject to change once we get into the season and see how healthy these Divisional series are. We have a serious concern about having any other HPV drivers to compete against in the Great Lakes Sprint Series and may abandon that series if we're the lone HPV entrant. The Midwest Sprint Series has a fairly strong HPV turnout but all their races except one are very long hauls for us (7+ hours) an one key event conflicts with a business obligation the team owner has. As usual, check this site and the schedule page before making final plans to join us at a local or distant race.
21 February - Family Racing Article Posted
If you haven't purchased your own copy of the February National Kart News we can only say, "What's wrong with you?!?!". We will have a limited supply of the Feb issue on hand at the Ohio Motorsports Expo this weekend (along with a supply of subscription forms - hint, hint) but we've also posted the article on line here for our family and friends who aren't subscribing, can't find a newsstand that carries NKN or just prefer to wait for our hand-me-downs. The page is all image files so it will take a relatively long while to download but we're hoping you have the patience to wait and enjoy it once it loads.
14 February - We Mourn A Family Loss
The strength and core of our team is and always will be family and of course those family ties go well beyond our pit area. On February 12 the Lord called home Roland Nelson, Lynn's dad and the girls' grandpa after a long illness. In his death there is much sadness in his leaving our lives but at the same time joy and relief that his struggle and suffering has ended and he has been made whole again in heaven. A man of unwavering Christian Faith, he is again able to laugh and joke and dance and sing just as loved to do during his earthly life.
Grandpa was a dedicated family man and stood as a fine example of a patriarchal leader keen to maintain traditions but yet always open to new ones. He took tremendous joy and pride in all his grandchildren and although his passion was baseball, he was always interested and proud of his granddaughters' accomplishments on the race track.
Everyone we meet in life influences us in some degree. Those of us privileged enough to know Roland over a period of time have been made better by it. If there happens to be some qualities you admire in the way our team and our family works and plays together, the legacy of his life is in there. And will continue to be.
