July '04 Reports
30 July - Dispatch Article Rescheduled
We heard from Eileen Dempsey, the Dispatch reporter that came out for a day of racing with us June 13, that the article she wrote about our team will likely appear on Saturday, August 14 or possibly Sunday, August 15. This time it will be Eileen that is off the mainland for the story's publication - she will be honeymooning in Hawaii. Congrats to her and we hope her article will draw attention to karting in Central Ohio. And again, many thanks to fellow karter Tom Rice for suggesting our team as the focus for her story.
27 July - Go Ahead, Google Us
Do you seem to recall some slanderous comment we made here about you a while back but just can't seem to remember when it was or what link to give your lawyer? Good news! We've added the power of Google to our site so you can instantly find exhibits for your deposition. You can find it on the main page, just above the links to our past reports. Just another convenience for you, our valued visitor.
23 - 25 July - A Wild Weekend
Karts on display at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.
Our weekend started Friday morning at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course as we joined Bob Strawser and Mike & Noah Unger in our club's karting promotional booth during the Honda Super Cycle Weekend. The karts were left at Mid Ohio overnight and we were back there early Saturday morning. About 3 o'clock we packed everything up like gypsies avoiding the sheriff and high tailed it the 90 miles to Circleville Raceway Park. There, Dana raced both the HPV and the Super Can (Tracy and Julie were at a Christian Youth Convention in Florida) picking up two 4ths, two 2nds and two wins along the way. Home by 1:00 am and back at Mid-Ohio by 8:30. There is definitely something wrong with us but that is the weekend in a nutshell. Now for the details. More...
11 July - Promoting Karting Again
As if the previous day wasn't enough, we were out in the heat again on Sunday afternoon at the Advance Auto Parts on Cemetery Road in Hilliard promoting Mid State Ohio Kart Club and karting in general. We didn't have the outright traffic we did when we did the last one there two years ago but we had several folks stop out that where very interested and eager to learn more. Ed and Adam Roberts and Dale Bethel joined us putting the full range of karts - Junior Briggs through shifter - on display. Many thanks to them for supporting their sport and Patrick Manley and everyone at Advance Auto Parts for the help.
10 July - A Long, Tough Night Ends Well
Twilight racing didn't agree with us.
There were plenty of long faces, concerned looks and maybe a short temper or two around the Conlin SpeedSports pits during the heat race rounds as we struggled to come to grips with the evening-to-nighttime racing conditions and finding ourselves mired in mid field positions. But by the end of the night (Sunday morning actually) things came around with Tracy taking a second in the Hume Performance Products Super Can feature and Dana winning the INFONETICS HPV feature.

Not only were we up against new track surface conditions caused by the setting and then disappearing sun but also the general atmospheric conditions which were sweltering. A brief shower mid afternoon did nothing but steam up the air making manual labor extremely unpleasant. It also starved the engines of oxygen which would factor in to tuning. But our troubles went beyond the heat and air quality. We were expecting the track to be much slicker sooner and had made some adjustments for that even before getting to the track. We're going to reevaluate that strategy since it seemed we were off pace immediately. Tracy fought handling problems and Dana complained of being down on power which was likely the result of the bad air and poor carb tuning by yours truly. More...
