March - We Got Da Hizzle In Our MIzzles
I have no
idea what that means but we gots to keep this site down low wit da kids,
Dawg. What Snoop Dog would somehow get from that headline is that we
have the horsepower in our motors.
The HPV
just got back from a major massage session with Ed Kesse down in Cincinnati.
Straightened the crank, did bearings, seals and rings & piston even
though he only had to go .005 on the cylinder walls to true them up.
That is very litte wear so we're doing something right. Ed also set
up the carb.
Ed has quite
a layout at his place including a dyno room and having that dyno information
on paper is a big plus and one of the reasons we've selected Ed as our
2-cycle engine builder. We are able to know exactly where the torque
band is on our motors. Ed has a fascination with 2-cycle motors and
has been working them for around 20 years. In that time he's come up
with some novel research methods including video taping the flow pattern
of the fuel in the throat of the carburettor, identifying the reason
for a flat spot in the horsepower curve on Walbro carb-equipped motors.
Ed is an interesting guy to talk to because he's been around karting
for so long and has seen a lot of changes.
In addition to the HPV he had just rebuilt, we put our new Yamaha motor
on the dyno to see the horsepower and torque profiles. Ed was able to
overlay the traces from a national-winning Yamaha motor and the data
was pretty close. We had been assured that this motor was strong and
I was more interested in knowing where it was making torque than checking
out those pre-sale claims but it was nice to see the big numbers come
up on Ed's computer.
Now all we need to do is put karts under them and these motors will
be ready for break-in and practice. Won't be long now. Dawg.
