About Us
Mike Ungers passion has always been racing. Starting with watching Rick Mears win the Indy 500 with his father when he was very young to racing model airplanes, 9.0 sec 200hp drag bikes to karts. Mike started racing karts in 1997 when he purchased a Briggs stocker. In 1999 after logging over 2000 laps at Circleville Raceway Park he finally achieved that breakthrough first win. After that he moved onto divisional competition finishing 3rd in the Ohio sprint series. In 2001 he made the move to HPV and finished 3rd in the Great Lake Sprint series. In 2003 he made the move to the powerful and violent 125cc shifter class where in 2004 became the MSOKC Champion. Mike has competed on many of the major tracks in the MidWest racing in local, divisional and national events. He also is the Technical Writer for National Kart News where he continues to write technical articles and do product testing. He is a mechanical engineer by trade and is truly interested in expanding karters know how in order to make karting more enjoyable for everyone. His motto is there no such thing as magic and racing secrets are for only for those fools who feel they know it all.
Jim draws on 30 years of practical experience as driver, crew member and official in various forms of motor racing. Beginning with snowmobiles at the age of 13, he's competed in sports cars and formula cars. In 1986 he competed in the prestigious Pilot Elf/Renault program in Magny-Cours, France where he was the highest placing American, finishing eighth. Jim switched to karting in order to get his daughters involved and after a couple years competing in Mid State Ohio Kart Club Briggs classes, Jim hung up the helmet to crew for daughter Dana who was enjoying racing and showing promise. A couple years later Jim found himself wrenching on two karts as a second daughter, Tracy, got behind the wheel. Over the past few years Jim has tuned the ladies to two club HPV championships and a second in Yamaha Super Can. Because the Conlin clan has enjoyed karting as a family so much, Jim is committed to helping others get the most out of their karting which is why he's part of KartspeedU.
Dana first got behind the wheel of a racing kart in 2000 during open practice sessions at Circleville Raceway Park using her dad's Briggs/Margay. That year she entered Mid State Ohio Kart Club's powder puff race and came from last to second. She raced full time the next year. After two years in Briggs medium she moved to the quick HPV 2-cycle class. Along the way she's received the MSOKC Most Improved Senior Driver award, was the MSOKC HPV champion two years in a row (2003 & 2004) and placed 3rd in the WKA Great Lakes Sprint Series. In addition to racing Dana has done some new product testing and test driving for National Kart News and has time in TaGs and Shifters. In December, 2004, she attended the invitational Lyn St. James Driver Development Program in Phoenix Arizona and she hopes to move into formula and sports cars. She currently works as a teacher at a Dublin, Ohio pre-school. |
