How'd you spend your Memorial Day?
The entire Conlin SpeedSports team (everyone except Nigel) spent it out at the track.
We had made another gear change and were anxious to see if we were any
closer to decent lap times with less than a week to Race #2. It didn't
take me too long to see that the different gear wasn't making the differnence
we had hoped for so the rest of the day was used to let the girls hot lap.
This would be Tracy's second time on the Circleville track and she continued to steadily lower her times. She only had one spin of her own doing trying to find more speed, spinning under breaking while turning into turn 6. In another session she was hampered by traffic and a new driver that was having more than his share of problems keeping his kart in the track and pointed in the right direction. Tracy spun once trying to avoid him when he lost it right in front of her - she did a good job of not getting caught up in his accident. This disappointed her, she said later, not because it ruined her lap but because she was looking forward to passing a boy - and an older one at that! Her second and third sessions went like this:

Dana also had some seat time. It was her first session on a real race track and she did extremely well. We didn't even put a stop watch on her the first time out so that she would not feel any pressure from the clock. In road racing it is often true that the fastest drivers are the ones that don't look fast. Dana looked very smooth but there was nothing the eye could see that would indicate she was working at the speed. It was only during her second session with the watch on her that it became apparent how quick she was going. She was well on her way to doing a very respectible 56 second lap in her third session when she ran out of laps. All in all, a very impressive debut and she made it look easy.
